How it Works

Orthodontist

Finding a trusted orthodontist for your child should not require a lengthy commute or a compromise on the quality of care your family deserves. Milpitas families have access to a level of specialized orthodontic and pediatric dental care that is rarely found under one roof, and it is closer than most parents realize. For children who need bite correction, jaw guidance, or a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation, choosing a practice that combines pediatric dentistry and orthodontics in one location makes every appointment smoother and every decision better informed.

Pediatric Dentistry of San Jose serves families throughout Milpitas with comprehensive orthodontic treatment delivered by our in-house orthodontist, Dr. Zachary Hollander. Our practice is designed specifically for children and adolescents, which means every aspect of the experience, from the office environment to the clinical approach, is built around making your child feel comfortable and cared for.

Orthodontic Care Designed for Growing Children

Orthodontics for children is meaningfully different from orthodontics for adults. Children’s jaws are still growing, and that growth creates opportunities to guide development in ways that simply are not available after the face reaches full maturity. Our orthodontic program takes full advantage of this window, providing evaluations, interceptive treatment, and comprehensive orthodontic care tailored to each child’s developmental stage.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children receive their first orthodontic evaluation by age seven. At this age, enough permanent teeth have erupted that an orthodontist can identify jaw discrepancies, crowding patterns, and bite irregularities that would benefit from early attention. Early evaluation does not always mean early treatment; in many cases the outcome is simply a monitoring plan that ensures any developing problem is addressed at precisely the right moment.

How It Helps

Our Orthodontic Services

Our orthodontic program covers a full range of treatment needs for children and adolescents. We provide early interceptive treatment for issues that are best addressed before all permanent teeth arrive, as well as comprehensive treatment once the permanent dentition is fully established. Services available through our orthodontic program include the following:

  • Early orthodontic treatment: Addressing crowding, crossbites, narrow palates, and bite problems during active jaw growth to reduce the complexity of future treatment.
  • Palate expansion: Widening the upper jaw using a palate expander to create adequate space for permanent teeth and correct bite issues while growth is still occurring.
  • Traditional braces: Fixed appliances using brackets and wires to achieve precise tooth movement and proper bite alignment.
  • Clear aligners: Removable, transparent trays for older children and adolescents who prefer a more discreet treatment approach.
  • Retainers: Custom retention appliances worn after active treatment to preserve alignment and protect your child’s results.

Every treatment plan begins with a thorough evaluation and a conversation about your child’s specific needs, timeline, and goals before any recommendations are made.

Why Integrated Orthodontic and Pediatric Care Matters

When orthodontic care is delivered within a pediatric dental practice, the entire care team shares a complete picture of your child’s oral health history. We track dental development from early childhood through adolescence, which means our orthodontist has context that an outside provider may not have access to. Bite patterns, habits that affect alignment, and any history of early tooth loss are all factored into our orthodontic assessments without requiring families to gather and transfer records between separate offices. Our early orthodontics program and our comprehensive orthodontic program work together seamlessly because they are delivered by the same coordinated team.

Meet Dr. Zachary Hollander

Dr. Zachary Hollander brings exceptional credentials and a depth of clinical training to every orthodontic appointment at our practice. He earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University and his DDS from Columbia University before moving to the West Coast to complete his orthodontic residency at UCLA, where he earned both his orthodontic certificate and a master’s degree in Oral Biology. Dr. Hollander is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction that reflects a commitment to clinical excellence beyond the requirements of licensure, and a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the California Dental Association, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.

Dr. Hollander has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics for his research on the Maxillary Skeletal Expander, a device central to many interceptive treatment cases. That published research reflects the same precision and attention to developmental outcomes that he brings to every evaluation he conducts for the families we serve.

Why Milpitas Families Choose Pediatric Dentistry of San Jose

Milpitas sits just minutes north of our East San Jose location, making our office a convenient choice for families throughout the city. Whether you are coming from near Great Mall, the Calaveras Road corridor, or communities closer to the Berryessa BART area, our practice is accessible and easy to reach.

Beyond location, there are several reasons our practice stands apart as the orthodontic choice for Milpitas families. We accept most PPO dental insurance plans, and our team is available to assist with claims so families can understand their coverage before treatment begins. You can review your insurance options with us before committing to any plan. We also offer a pediatric dental membership plan for families who prefer a transparent, subscription-style alternative to insurance. As a practice dedicated exclusively to children and adolescents, every member of our team has experience working with young patients at every stage of development and comfort level.
