Saturday appointments available for new patients!
When it comes to your child’s smile, there is no substitute for care delivered by a team that has been watching over their dental health from the very beginning. Orthodontic treatment has a direct relationship to how children’s teeth were managed in their earliest years, which is why having a pediatric dental practice and a board-certified orthodontist under the same roof offers Santa Clara families something that most standalone orthodontic offices simply cannot. The result is treatment that is informed, timely, and built on a complete picture of your child’s development.
Pediatric Dentistry of San Jose provides comprehensive orthodontic services for children and adolescents throughout Santa Clara and the surrounding South Bay communities. Our practice is dedicated exclusively to young patients, meaning every aspect of how we deliver care, from our appointments to our treatment recommendations, is tailored to the needs of growing children.
Orthodontic needs do not arrive on a single schedule. Some children benefit from early intervention during the mixed dentition years, while others are best served by monitoring through childhood and beginning comprehensive treatment in early adolescence. Our approach at Pediatric Dentistry of San Jose is to evaluate each child individually and recommend treatment based on their specific developmental picture, not a one-size-fits-all timeline.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have an orthodontic evaluation by age seven, when enough permanent teeth have erupted for an orthodontist to assess bite relationships, jaw development, and tooth positioning. At this stage, certain problems are well-suited to early correction, and others simply need to be monitored until the right treatment window opens. Either way, having that baseline evaluation in place is what allows our team to act at the most effective moment.
Our early orthodontics program addresses developing problems during the mixed dentition phase, typically between ages six and twelve. Acting during active jaw growth gives us the ability to guide skeletal and dental development in ways that are not available after growth is complete. Common reasons a child may be a candidate for early treatment include posterior crossbites, narrow palates, significantly crowded incisors, underbites, and habits like thumb sucking that have begun to affect bite development.
Early treatment does not replace comprehensive orthodontics. Rather, it creates a better foundation so that when full treatment begins, it is simpler, shorter, and more stable. Many families who pursue Phase 1 treatment find that Phase 2, if needed at all, is meaningfully less involved as a result.
Once most or all permanent teeth have arrived, we offer full comprehensive orthodontic treatment using today’s most effective options. Whether your child responds best to traditional braces, ceramic braces, or clear aligners, our orthodontist develops a treatment plan that addresses the bite, alignment, and esthetics in a way that suits your child’s age, preferences, and clinical needs. We also provide custom retainers at the conclusion of active treatment to protect the results your child has worked toward.
Dr. Zachary Hollander is our in-house orthodontist and one of the most credentialed providers serving families throughout the South Bay. He completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University, earned his DDS from Columbia University, and went on to complete his orthodontic residency at UCLA, where he received both his certificate and a master’s degree in Oral Biology. Dr. Hollander is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction that goes beyond the requirements of licensure and reflects a sustained commitment to clinical excellence and ongoing evaluation.
Dr. Hollander has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics for his research on the Maxillary Skeletal Expander, and he holds active membership in the American Association of Orthodontists, the California Dental Association, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. His published research and board certification set a standard of care that Santa Clara families can count on for every evaluation and every treatment plan he develops.
Milpitas sits just minutes north of our East San Jose location, making our office a convenient choice for families throughout the city. Whether you are coming from near Great Mall, the Calaveras Road corridor, or communities closer to the Berryessa BART area, our practice is accessible and easy to reach.
Beyond location, there are several reasons our practice stands apart as the orthodontic choice for Milpitas families. We accept most PPO dental insurance plans, and our team is available to assist with claims so families can understand their coverage before treatment begins. You can review your insurance options with us before committing to any plan. We also offer a pediatric dental membership plan for families who prefer a transparent, subscription-style alternative to insurance. As a practice dedicated exclusively to children and adolescents, every member of our team has experience working with young patients at every stage of development and comfort level.
Choosing the right orthodontist for your child means choosing a provider who understands not just teeth and bites, but the developmental context behind them. At Pediatric Dentistry of San Jose, Dr. Hollander's board certification, published research, and deep integration with our pediatric dental team give Santa Clara families access to a level of coordinated care that is genuinely rare. We welcome children at every stage of development, from early interceptive evaluations through comprehensive smile completion, and we are committed to making each visit as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
If your child is approaching age seven or you have already noticed something about their bite or alignment that warrants a closer look, we encourage you to contact our office and schedule an evaluation with Dr. Hollander today.
